Upper Dublin Township qualified as a Clean Energy Community on January 9, 2008 when we reached our goal of 200 residents or businesses signing up for Clean Energy. Upper Dublin Township committed to purchasing 100% of its energy needs from clean energy sources from January 2007 through December 2008. Thanks to this joint effort by the Township, residents, businesses, and school organizations, the Township will receive a free 1kW solar energy system!
Join this initiative to declare energy independence by signing up at www.cleanyourair.org. You can also use a form on our website document page under the clean energy initiative section called Form-Clean Energy Signup UDT.
Upper Dublin Township is purchasing 100% clean, renewable energy for its municipal energy needs for 2007 and 2008. As part of the Pennsylvania Clean Energy Communities Campaign, Upper Dublin Township committed to purchasing clean energy and is also encouraging its residents to sign up to help create cleaner air, healthier communities, and energy independence. Upper Dublin Township will receive one free solar energy system, valued at $10,000, as a symbol of its leadership now that over 200 residents and businesses have signed up for the program. The Pennsylvania Clean Energy Communities Campaign is an initiative of the Pennsylvania Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) and SmartPower, a marketing organization dedicated to promoting clean energy.
"The Pennsylvania Clean Energy Communities Campaign helped me learn that clean energy was not as expensive as we thought. Clean energy is not only an environmental issue, but is also a national security issue. We do not want to have any of our brave soldiers risking their lives for foreign oil." (Jules J. Mermelstein, Vice-President, Upper Dublin Board of Commissioners January 2007).
Q: Why should I sign up?
A: Purchasing clean energy is an easy way to "green" your everyday energy use and fight pollution by reducing your carbon emissions. By signing up for clean energy, you are doing your part to create cleaner air and healthier communities.
Q: What is the cost?
A: The cost of clean energy is surprisingly affordable, less than the cost of a take-out pizza meal for your family!
There are several options available:
Q: Is clean energy as reliable as the power I get now?
A: Yes. There is no difference. You will still receive the same reliability from the grid, and the same utility company you have now will still deliver power to your house.
Q: Will clean energy be delivered directly to my home?
A: No - it will be delivered into the grid. We all pay for energy to be supplied to the power grid on our behalf. Right now, you're paying for the standard mix of resources, which is primarily coal, oil, and nuclear. When you sign up for clean energy, you will pay a small additional cost for solar, wind, hydro, and other clean sources.
Q: What would I do if my power went out?
A: You would call your regular utility. It will continue to serve you.
Q: Do Compact Fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs save money and electricity? Where can I get them?
A: CFL light bulbs is reported to use 75% less energy to generate the same amount of wattage. They are available at most grocery stores, discount chains, home improvement stores, drug stores and online. They come in many shapes and preferences including standard, floodlights, dimmable candelabra bulbs and globe bulbs for bathroom fixtures.
Q: Is there more I can do to help protect the climate?
A: For more great ideas about how you can reduce CO2 emissions both individually and as a community, visit http://climateactionnow.org.
